Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2 November 2026

In short

Satwise doesn’t have accounts, doesn’t show ads and doesn’t track you. Everything you log stays on your device. The only information that leaves your device is the barcode number of a product you scan, which is sent to Open Food Facts to look up its nutrition.

Who we are

Satwise is made by Chris Barker, an independent developer. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the developer of Satwise, and “you” means anyone using the app.

Information we collect

We don’t collect any personal information. Satwise has no sign-up, no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking. We never see the foods you log, your settings or your daily totals.

Information stored on your device

To work, Satwise saves the following on your iPhone or iPad only:

  • the foods you log, with their nutrition, portion and the time you logged them
  • products you mark as favourites
  • your preferences, such as your daily limit, appearance and how long to keep your history
  • a count of your free barcode scans for the day

This information never leaves your device unless you choose to share it (see Reports below). It may be included in your device’s own backups, such as iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer, which are controlled by you and Apple.

Barcode lookups

When you scan a barcode, Satwise sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a free, open food database, to retrieve the product’s name and nutrition. The request includes the app’s name and version, but no personal information about you. Open Food Facts handles this request under its own privacy policy.

Camera and photos

Satwise asks for camera access to scan barcodes and to photograph nutrition labels. When you scan a label, the text is read on your device using Apple’s built-in text recognition. Photos are used only to read the nutrition information; they aren’t saved by Satwise or uploaded anywhere. If you choose a photo from your library instead, Satwise only receives the photo you pick. You can change camera access at any time in your device’s Settings.

Reports for your GP

Premium reports are created as PDF files on your device. They’re only shared if you choose to, using the standard iOS share sheet, for example to email, AirDrop or save them. Once shared, the copy is handled by the app or person you send it to.

Purchases

Satwise Premium is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes your payment and manages your subscription; we never receive your payment details. Satwise checks with Apple whether you have an active purchase so it can unlock Premium. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for how Apple handles this information.

Health information

The foods you log can say something about your diet and health. That’s why this information stays on your device and is never sent to us or anyone else, and isn’t used for advertising or research.

Children

Satwise doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children. It isn’t specifically designed for children, and anyone under 16 should use it with the guidance of a parent, guardian or healthcare professional.

Deleting your data

Because your data is stored only on your device, you’re always in control of it:

  • Keep History in Settings removes older entries automatically after the period you choose.
  • Delete All Data in Settings permanently removes everything you’ve logged and your favourites.
  • Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Satwise handles information, we’ll update this policy and its effective date. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
